A colorless dextrorotatory carbohydrate, C18H32O16+2H2O, obtained in southern France from the sweet exudation of the young twigs and needles of the larch, Abies Larix, and from Alhagi Camelorum from Asia. It forms small, lustrous, hard, monoclinic crystals, and melts at 140° C. In France it is sometimes used in place of sugar. In India it is employed as an aperient. Also called melezitriose.
